Family Counseling in Orlando
You love your kids, but you feel like you're failing them.

Kids don't come with an instruction manual...

When something seems “off” or “wrong,” it can feel incredibly frustrating for you as a parent not to know how to effectively help your child. Whether you are experiencing behavioral issues—tantrums, lying, meltdowns, defiance, attention issues—or perceiving them to be anxious or depressed, it can be hard to understand what they need from you as a parent, especially since they don’t always understand themselves or know what they need. Maybe you’ve become a version of yourself as a parent that you feel ashamed about such as impatient, "snappy,” distant, and disconnected.

As a parent, asking for help can seem uncomfortable because you think you should know what to do (mom guilt and dad guilt is real). You might be thinking, “I’ll get them help” or “They need someone other than me to talk to.” It can feel less vulnerable to have them receive therapy rather than to ask for help yourself. However, the truth is you may both need help…and that’s okay! You don’t have to figure things out on your own. We can help.

There may not be a manual, but there are strategies!

We don’t realize how much our presence, personality, behaviors, and attitudes impact others until we become parents. Although kids are born with plenty of factors that already predetermine things like personality and temperament, their environment plays a major role in their development. A healthy environment can amplify great qualities and correct poor ones; an unhealthy environment can amplify poor qualities and hinder great ones. Kids don’t get to choose their environment; it’s up to parents to create a healthy, supportive, and nurturing environment—that’s where we come in!

When you meet with us, you will not be judged but instead, celebrated for the courage and dedication to your child through your willingness to get help and get equipped. Our approach to parenting counseling generally involves meeting with you, the parent(s), individually to understand the challenges you’re facing; meeting with your child individually to understand their needs; and then presenting our findings to you so we can develop a plan that meets your goals. You’ll learn about the different factors that influence children’s behaviors and development, gain insight about the needs your child is trying to communicate to you, learn strategies for addressing behavioral challenges, and learn strategies to foster a strong bond with your child—sometimes this part includes getting more of the family unit involved.

Parenting and family counseling will help you:

Understand you child's needs better.

Foster a healthy home environment.

Handle behavioral challenges.

Understand your parenting style.

Grow confident in your skills as a parent.

It's possible to feel confident and empowered in your parenting journey.
